Maven Setup on Linux

Putting the Maven files on your filesystem

 

  1. download and save the a copy of the maven install tar from apache to.
  2. move a copy of the tar file to the install directory
  3. cd to the install directory
  4. Extract the Maven files from the compressed tar file
    tar -xzf maven-2.0.4-bin.tar.gz

Setting up the development environment

To have your environment ready to use Maven each time you log in, edit the .bashrc file in you home directory.

  1. Add the Maven home directory as an environment variable named M2_HOME
    export M2_HOME="/usr/local/maven-2.0.4"
  2. Add Maven bin directory the PATH environment variable.
    export PATH="$PATH:$M2_HOME/bin"
